History of Lerik

Ancient stone objects were found in the Lerik region of ancient history. The Buzeyir cave is one of the oldest stone settlements in the territory of Azerbaijan.

From ancient times, primitive people used the natural caves, now existing as a dwelling place in the foothills of the mountains. Some of these natural caves are likely to belong even to the Bronze Age.

There are material and cultural monuments of III-II millennium BC before our era. During the archaeological excavations by famous French archeologist Jacques de Morgan, K. Shaffer, and his brother Henry from the 18th-19th centuries, they discovered valuable artifacts called "archeological paradise". Morgan carried out archeological excavations at Kizilbashlar cemetery in Veri village of Lerik and talked about the ancient history of this town. He took to France all the examples of the material culture he had found in a storey cemetery. These exhibits still adorn the Paris museums.

In addition to the unique nature of this region, its unique culture and ancient history make it popular as well.
